Sticky Post: Fics + Who Is This Girl?

Aug. 4th, 2020 | 08:30 pm

Whatever, I probably don't have enough stuff up to actually justify one of these, but I'm making one anyway, so I don't LOOOOOSE things. These are listed in the order I wrote them, oldest first.

And if you were curious about the gal behind the computer screen, here are a couple o' facts--you know, if you wanted to friend me for fic or whatever, just some extra knowledge.Collapse )

Title : the trouble with tribbles (the aftermath remix)
Episode Remixed : 2.13 The Trouble with Tribbles
Rating : PG
Disclaimer : Star Trek in all its many forms does not belong to me.
Characters/Pairings : Gen; Uhura, Scotty
Word Count :~1300
Summary : "We've been spaceside almost since Vulcan was destroyed, you realize that?" Scotty and Uhura discuss shore leave and other things after the events of The Trouble with Tribbles.
Notes : Real life circumstances completely ambushed me this last month--not even gonna get into how busy I've been and why, I don't want to bore you to tears. &hearts But have some gen fic as an apology. This is for operation80 and it is an odd little Reboot take on the TOS episode The Trouble with Tribbles. This is not the more epic fic I wanted to finish for this challenge--that one is Kirk/Spock and sitting partially written in my documents, crying out for the next slot in my to-do list. (After answering comments, posting help_haiti fic for silentstep who has been INCREDIBLY patient and lovely with me ♥, writing other things, and generally stopping being so unable to keep up with lj due to my inability to organize my time. *facepalm*) But until that one gets finished, here is ~1300 words about Scotty and Uhura being friends.

I've been sitting on a housekeeping post over here for AGES--basically I've been sick for a good 2/3 of the last two-ish months and so am VERY behind with everything, especially Star Trek fic and comments over here. Which I hate. I miss Trek like you wouldn't believe, and I feel so awful for being so behind on keeping up with you guys, because you are always so sweet and AWESOME. *sigh* I promise, promise, promise that I am (SERIOUSLY.) almost ready to post something over here, but in the meantime:

I have a thread up at help_haiti specifically for short Trek fics, two slots available. Starting bid is a dollar, and it's for a really important cause. So if you feel so moved, head on over there.

Thank you guys so much for your patience. I'm going to start catching up with things over here in the next few days, so expect to see me around. ♥

ALSO I hope you are all ready for me to write Reboot Tribble fic, probably to be posted in March. *grin*

couple of recs

Nov. 5th, 2009 | 12:22 pm

I know I haven't done recs in the past, but when stuff is awesome, I just have to share it! Don't worry, I promise this journal won't only be recs from here on out.

How Many Roads? or, 27 Times Jim Kirk Hit On Nyota Uhura
by Deastar
Summary: After the bar fight, Nyota thinks to herself that if this is what being hit on by Jim Kirk leads to, she’s very glad she’s never going to have to see him again.
I could never say enough good things about this fic. It's probably one of my favorite Uhura portrayals ever--just so skilled and clever and beautiful. If you like Uhura and you like Kirk, you should ABSOLUTELY read this.

From The Terran Coyote to The Klingon K'Ortar: Tricksters of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants by ljc
Summary: In response to the prompt in treknovelfest: Uhura's Song - Vulcan stories -- A story of T'Kay, the trickster of Vulcan.
AHHH I love this so much. I'm a huge folklore geek, so the meta in here is just stunningly delightful. And clever! I love how the author translated the idea of the Trickster to Vulcan. JUST SO COOL.

PSA: Space is BIG by rhaegal
Summary: An explanation of scale! (Space is big.)
This is more of a "useful thing" than an actual story, but omg, if you write or read Star Trek fic (especially if you write it), you should read this. It's an explanation of the size of the universe on a scale us mere mortals can understand! Or, in other words, why it doesn't make sense when the Enterprise "zooms from one end of the Milky Way to the other in an instant."

two recs + one question + one question meme

Nov. 3rd, 2009 | 12:07 pm

Look, I don't want to spam you guys, so I'm just sticking this all in one post. *grin*

So Wise We Grow by Deastar
Summary: “Commander Spock, we have located your son,” the Vulcan lady on the screen says, which would be great, except Jim can tell by the look on Spock’s face that he’s never heard of this kid before in his life. “If it is expedient, the child will be sent to join you on the Enterprise within the week.”

This is just AWESOME. It's funny, clever, plotty, deliciously longggg, and just very well-written. DELIGHTFULLY well-written, in fact, AND it's good kidfic. I LOVE kidfic, but honestly, a lot of the time it's pretty unrealistic, with supercuddly kids and easy parenting. This fic actually takes into account how hard it is to raise another human being, haha, and does so while cultivating this really lovely romance AND keeping up exciting plots. Really, it's just great. You'll like it! Promise. :D

Reconciliation by betweenthebliss
Summary : On the border of the Neutral Zone, the Enterprise runs into the Battlestar Galactica, reuniting Kirk with his old friend Kara Thrace. The Colonials are in trouble; their ship has been damaged and Admiral Adama taken hostage by cylons newly allied with the Romulan Empire. Eager for proof of an alliance that could endanger the entire Federation, Kirk commits the Enterprise to helping the Colonials out; but as usual, nothing goes according to plan.

Yeah yeah, I did the art for this one--but that is really, truly, honestly not why I am reccing it. I am reccing it because it is fucking amazing, you guys. SO GOOD. Every time I think about it I get all giddy and incoherent and admiring--it's so SUBTLE and friggin' perfect and I don't care if you haven't watched BSG, this makes perfect sense without. It's intense, suspenseful, atmospheric, and just stunningly well-crafted. Read it.

A question! Do any of you guys use Twitter? I have singingintime registered over there, mainly just because I wanted to get it before anyone else did (which is silly of me, I suppose, as it's not that common, is it? ANYWAY), but I'm not using it for anything. I have been trying to come up with a good potential use for it! So far my two ideas are: use it for one-sentence fics (you know, a whole story in a sentence) or use it to keep people updated when I post something new. Is there any demand for either of those? If not, I'll just keep twiddling my thumbs over here until I can think of something more exciting to do with it. :D

And now a meme! Just 'cause I feel like it.

Ask me either a broad [writing-related] question (i.e Who is your cruelest character?, What is your most optimistic story?) or a specific question/request (What world does ___ come from?, Tell me about ___) and I will answer you. Or you can ask meta-questions like What was the inspiration for creating ____?) Pretty much ask me anything about my fic and I'll ramble at you a bit.

If you've read any of my non ST stuff, you can feel free to ask about that here as well for the sake of convenience.

morning will wait

Nov. 3rd, 2009 | 01:00 am

This is a little tiny thing for betweenthebliss--partly as a thank you for being so awesome to work with, partly as a little apology for not getting done near as many pieces of art as I wanted to for her, and partly just because I think she's ace and because she asked for fluff to mitigate the effects of the perception, it is wrong. XD She wanted the first time they sleep together or the morning after--I have plans for both of those, so instead this is just a morning after. ♥

PG-13, ~629 words, tooth-rottingly fluffy.Collapse )

a timestamp!

Nov. 3rd, 2009 | 12:50 am

Second of my apologies-this-took-so-long drabbles! melmelchan wanted to see something from the Stars and Planets 'verse with parents; "either a meet the parents scene, or Jim's thoughts on why Spock doesn't want him to meet his dad." So: Spock and Jim's mom meet.

1117 words, PG-13; untitled until I can think of one, haha.Collapse )
